Apokreas is Greece’s Carnival season which precedes the 40 days of fasting that leads up to Pascha. Like carnival season in places like New Orleans, Rio and the Carribean, Apokreas is a period of partying, eating, drinking, dancing and celebrating.

The Sioux City community maintains these traditions with a dinner party the evening of Meatfare Sunday, with a different theme each year.
